Midsize pickup trucks offer an ideal solution for numerous drivers, combining a pickup truck’s capabilities and performance specifications with fuel-efficient engine choices and a more budget-friendly price point.

In 2019, Ford sought to heat up the competition in the midsize truck segment by bringing back the fan-favorite Ford Ranger. While it was fantastic to see the iconic nameplate return to our shores, its arrival was met with mixed reactions due to its soft, underwhelming, outdated style, leaving many folks disappointed.

With the 2024 Ranger, Ford is looking to once again revitalize the midsize truck with a more outgoing demeanor, a more powerful engine option, and more tech features. Plus, the Ford Ranger Raptor, which is offered abroad, has finally reached U.S. shores. With this redesign, there’s plenty of reason to be excited about the new Ford Ranger. But when will it hit your local Ford dealership?

Today, we discuss the 2024 Ford Ranger release date and other pertinent information potential buyers should know. Let’s get to it.

When is the 2024 Ford Ranger Release Date?

Unfortunately, the 2024 Ford Ranger production is anything but smooth sailing. Back in September, the United Auto Workers (UAW) initiated a strike against Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis, choosing Ford’s Michigan Assembly plant as its first location to exit, which immediately halted the production of the Ford Bronco and Ford Ranger. Prior to this event, the production of the 2024 Ford Ranger had already faced significant setbacks due to supply chain issues, as reported by the automaker.

Initially, the 2024 Ford Ranger was slated for release by the end of Summer 2023. However, with the aforementioned supply chain issues, the release was delayed towards the end of September. Now, with the UAW strike and everything, the redesigned Ford Ranger is expected to hit dealerships by the end of the year. If anything comes up, we’ll make sure to report any updates to the 2024 Ford Ranger release date, so stay tuned.

What’s New With the 2024 Ford Ranger?

Apart from the noticeable facelift, the 2024 Ford Ranger will add the range-topping trim, the Ford Ranger Raptor – essentially a downsized version of the F-150 Raptor.

The New 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor

The 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor is marketed as a powerhouse but value-packed, offering an off-roading experience that rivals its competitors at a fraction of the price. Starting at $55,365, it’s significantly cheaper than the Ford Bronco Raptor and the F-150 Raptor while still providing a practical truck bed for all your hauling needs.

Under the hood, the Ranger Raptor boasts a 3.0-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 engine with 405 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. It rides on 17-inch beadlock capable wheels wrapped in 33-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A K03 tires and features a reinforced frame and upgraded suspension for off-roading.

2024 Ford Ranger Exterior

The 2024 Ford Ranger has grown slightly in size and sports a modern, sturdy look. The crew-cab body sits on a newly designed platform, with several changes to its appearance. Also, the headlights now resemble the C-clamp shape seen on the F-150 and Maverick, and the fake vent on the front fenders has been turned vertical. The doors have a more pronounced concave design, and the side mirror indicator lights are now horizontal.

The Raptor model stands out with its bold “FORD” grille, large 33-inch tires, wide wheel arches, front protective plate, and underbody shielding.

2024 Ford Ranger Interior

Tech and comfort-wise, the interior of the 2024 Ranger is a nice place to get stuck in traffic. The instrument cluster comes in either a standard 8-inch or an upgraded 12.4-inch display, while the center infotainment screen is either a 10.1-inch or an upgraded 12-inch display with the latest Sync 4A system.

Physical buttons and knobs (thankfully!) are used for standard climate functions and volume control. The cabin also features two USB charging ports, an available wireless charging pad, ample storage in the center console, door pockets, a second glove compartment, and improved rear underseat bins.

The 2024 Ranger offers three engine options: a 270-hp, 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine; a 315-hp, 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 engine; and a 405-hp, 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine exclusive for the Raptor version. All engines are paired with a specially-tuned 10-speed automatic transmission and are available in rear- and four-wheel-drive configurations. The Raptor version also features a reinforced frame and upgraded suspension for off-roading.

2024 Ford Ranger Safety/Driver Assistance

The base Ranger XL comes standard with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and lane-keeping assistance. Meanwhile, higher trims come standard with Ford CoPilot-360, a suite of features that includes automatic emergency braking, lane centering assistance, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, rear automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, and sign recognition.

Additional available features include active parking assistance and trailer assistance, which coaches you on how to maneuver a trailer.
