Heated seats in a vehicle are a pretty common thing these days. They may not come standard on a base model, but like the Camry, as you move up in trim levels, they become optional and standard. This article explains Toyota Camry heated seats: what to know.

If you’re looking to buy a Toyota Camry, you’re looking at a car that can offer you a lot of comfort features. In 2020, Toyota added heated, cooled, and ventilated seats as an option or as a standard feature to five different trim models of the Camry: the XLE 4-cylinder, XSE 4-cylinder, XLE V6, XSE V6, and the Hybrid XLE. With an All-Weather package ordered on one of these trim levels, you would also receive a heated steering wheel (if it doesn’t already have one) and rear heated seats.

Heated Seats Are Great But Are There Dangers?

Heated seats can be dangerous. They are a great luxury, and in general, they don’t pose a threat to any adults. But there have been some controversial cases where people have complained that they have suffered 3re-degree burns as a result of using heated seats.

There are settings on heated seats, and they’re there for reason. The easiest way to make sure you don’t suffer burns with any heated seats is to start warming your seat up on High, then when you notice it’s warm enough, you should switch the heated seat position to Medium, Low, or even off.

It can be easy to forget that your heated seats are on and how long they have been on for. This can cause a slow build-up in heat that you don’t notice and may not notice until it is too late. It won’t be until you get up and move around and start to feel the friction of your clothes start to rub against your skin before you notice you may have been burned.

Heated seats can get up to 120-degrees Fahrenheit in 10 minutes depending on the model of the car. They have been known to reach as much as 150-degrees if there is something wrong with the heated seat components

Warm is good and sometimes hot, but too hot for too long can cause problems like Toasted Skin Syndrome. You may not exhibit the same type of pain as you would if you had 3rd-degree burns, but you would notice your skin on your back, thighs, legs, and buttocks started to take on a rashy red color or even a brownish or discolored look. This is caused by too much exposure to heated seats.

If you want to use your seats to the maximum, try to wear clothing that is a little thicker. This puts a little separation in between your skin and the heat source.

Toyota Camry Heated Seats: What to Know About Aftermarket Installation

It’s not uncommon to find a car you like that doesn’t have heated seats, especially if that car is a few years behind on the latest technology, but that doesn’t mean you should walk away. There are options for aftermarket heated seat installs.

The easiest route to take is to purchase a heated seat pad that lays on top of your seats. Kind of like something you would buy for your recliner in your house. These are easy installs and safe to operate. Fairly inexpensive and harmless to your original seats, this is a great option for most people.

If you’re stubborn with the way your car’s interior looks and you want aftermarket heated seats that look like they were installed straight from the factory, those will cost you a little bit more money and they won’t be as easy to install.

In fact, you shouldn’t attempt to install these products yourself at all. Many factors go into installing heated seats correctly so they work properly and don’t pose a danger to you or your car. It’s best with some projects, this one included, to let a professional handle the job.

A professional will know which company to go through to get the best product on the market at the best prices, and they will also have the skills and tools to get the project done correctly.

The best thing to do in this situation would be to go to a Toyota dealer to have this type of work done. If that’s not possible, at least make sure you go somewhere that is highly recommended in your community or in the auto community in general.

Trouble Shooting Your Camry Heated Seats

If you have heated seats that aren’t heating up at all. You might be able to find the problem on your own. The problem with non-heating heated seats could be something as simple as a fuse. Finding the fuse box and what fuse the seats use can be figured out by looking through your owner’s manual.

The fuse box should be pretty easy to gain access to, use the owner’s manual to find the correct fuse, you can watch this video to see what you need to do to check and see if the fuse needs to be replaced.

If a blown fuse seems to be the immediate problem, you can go to any hardware store, auto parts store, or pretty much any place that has a car audio section or an automotive section to purchase one, e.i. Walmart, Best Buy, O’Reily’s. They’re inexpensive and as easy to replace as a light bulb.

Another quick fix that you might be able to handle is looking under the seats for a corroded connection or a connection that has come unplugged. It’s not super common, but these things do happen. Clean the plugs and reconnect the connection to see if that fixes your problem.

Life Expectancy Toyota Heated Seats: What to Know

Most heated seat features should last as long as the vehicle lasts, but we wouldn’t have put a section in this article if it weren’t possible for them to have problems. If you use your heated seats more than the average person, chances are you might have to have them repair throughout your ownership of the car.

Aftermarket heated seats can go either way. They might last longer than factory-installed heated seats and they might not. That will all depend on the quality of the heated seat kit installed in your Toyota Camry and the level of professionalism that was used while installing them.
