For today’s post, we will shine the spotlight on the Rivian R1T all-electric pickup. We’re mainly highlighting the Rivian R1T range, so you’ll know just how far you can get with this exciting new all-electric pickup. Let’s get to it!

Rivian R1T Range: How Far Can It Go?

As an all-electric vehicle, many of you are interested in the range capabilities of the new Rivian R1T pickup truck. The R1T is powered by a 135 kWh battery (133 kWh usable) and has a range of 314 miles per charge. Just to be clear, the 314 miles (505 km) range is the EPA Combined rating, while the EPA Highway range is 292.9 mi (471.3 km).

At best, this is the Rivian R1T range and can only be achieved with the 21” Road variant. As reported by Inside EVs, selecting other R1T types would reduce the range. Here’s a quick breakdown of all R1T and their respective range capacity:

  • 20” All-Terrain R1T – 267-283 miles with 10-15% range reduction as suggested by the manufacturer
  • 21” Road R1T - 314 miles
  • 22” Sport R1T - 283-298 miles with 10-15% range reduction as suggested by the manufacturer

Overall, in addition to wheel types, several factors can also affect the range of the Rivian R1T, including battery size and drive type. The 314 miles range is achievable with the combination of the Quad-Motor AWD and a Large Pack battery. You can upgrade to the Max Pack battery, which has an estimated range of 400+ miles.

Meanwhile, the Dual-Motor AWD system has three battery options available: Standard Pack (260+ miles), Large Pack (320+ miles), and Max Pack (400+ miles). As you might expect, the larger the battery, the more expensive the package gets.

Rivian claims that you can add up to 140 miles of range in 20 minutes using its DC fast chargers. The company plans to install 3,500 DC fast chargers across 600 locations nationwide.

Rivian R1T Price: How Much Does It Cost?

Some superhero guy’s uncle once said, “with great range comes a higher price tag.” Or maybe not. In all seriousness, the base Explore trim with Dual-Motor, and Standard Pack battery retails for $67,500, excluding potential savings from federal and local incentives.

If you opt for the Quad-Motor AWD, you’ll have to add $6,000. While that looks expensive, the Quad-Motor is simply the more capable of the two drive types, with 0-60 mph in 3 seconds, 800+ horsepower, and 900+ lb-ft of torque. In addition, upsizing your battery to the Large Pack (320+ miles) will cost you another $6,000, or an additional $16,000 for the Max Pack battery (400+ miles). It’s also worth noting that the Standard Pack battery is not available for the Quad-Motor package – at least, not for now.

Meanwhile, the Adventure equipment package with base specs and features starts at $73,000. The drivetrain and battery upgrades remain the same price as earlier. Some features of the Adventure package that you won’t find with the base Explore trim include a Gear Guard security cable, Dual front bumper tow hooks, Compass Yellow interior accents, wood interior finishes, and more.

Furthermore, several options and upgrades for the interior and extra equipment are available. For example, you can change the interior theme to Ocean Coast, which will cost an additional $2,000. Moreover, you may also add camping packages like the Rivian Camp Kitchen x Snow Peak cooking system ($6,750) or the Three-Person Tent + Cargo Crossbars custom tent package ($3,100).

8 QUESTIONS TO ASK WHEN BUYING A USED CAR

So you’re in the market for a used vehicle?  We’ve gone ahead and prepped some essential questions to ask when buying a used car.

Rivian R1T Range: How It Compares to the Competition

As you may know, Rivian isn’t the only company that has set its eyes on the full electric pickup truck market. As of this writing, two of Rivian R1 T’s biggest competitors are the F-150 Lightning and GMC Hummer EV – two pickup trucks with quite the pedigree.

First, the Ford F-150 Lightning, equipped with a standard battery, offers 230 miles of range. Going for the larger extended battery will increase its range to 300-320 miles. The lower range is assigned to the feature-packed (i.e., heavy) Lightning Platinum trim.

On the other hand, according to the truck’s promotional materials, the GMC Hummer EV has a projected driving range of 350+ miles. However, with various tests from leading automotive websites like MotorTrend, the Hummer EV’s range was found to be 329 miles on a full charge – still better than the F-150 Lightning’s extended battery.

Lastly, the Rivian R1T range seems to be the middle ground option between the two. Since Rivian has three battery options, it’s more flexible in terms of travel range. The smaller 105-kWh battery delivers a respectable 230 miles with a full charge. The larger 135 kWh battery has a range of 314 miles, while the 180 kWh pack has an estimated range of 400+ miles.

Rivian R1T: Is It Any Good?

The Rivian R1T is one of the more exciting players in the EV field. With more companies plunging into the all-electric space, it’s good for consumers since you’re getting more options, and prices will be more competitive.

From the looks of it, the Rivian R1T is an excellent truck that can deliver exceptional range along with strong on-road performance and towing capacity (which we’ll also cover in another post). The R1T is certainly a strong competitor, and we can’t wait to see what else Rivian has in store for us.
