Previously dominated by the likes of Tesla, the electric vehicle or EV space is quickly becoming a highly-competitive arena as more manufacturers put their own spin on all-electric cars. And if you’ve been paying attention, the current lineup of luxury electric vehicles share many common features – futuristic styling, cutting-edge tech, and powerful electric motors. If you’re looking for a luxury EV with all these qualities and more, you should look into Polestar 2.

For the uninitiated, Polestar 2 is a luxury electric vehicle from Volvo’s young all-electric brand, Polestar. It’s an electric sedan with two engine options: a single-motor and dual-motor model. As a luxury electric sedan, the Polestar 2 directly competes with the Tesla Model 3.

For today’s post, we’ll focus on the Polestar 2 interior, from its seating space, cargo capacity, cabin design, and everything else you need to know. Let’s get to it.

Cabin Design and Quality

The Polestar 2 interior features a relatively simple cabin design layout but is quite striking with its lack of clutter and sporty aesthetic. The cabin looks modern, with clean lines and a monochromatic color palette. The Polestar 2 does have some design elements from its Volvo brethren, such as the knurled start knob and steering wheel buttons – but with a significantly less dynamic dashboard in the Polestar 2.

However, if you look closely, you’ll find some questionable material quality, like some of the plastic pieces feel scratchy and cheap. As mentioned, it’s a relatively monochromatic space, so if you want colors in your interior, you’ll be left disappointed. However, many customers will appreciate the neat hexagonal shifter and a few trim panels with 3D-etched textures. Overall, Polestar 2 interior could be better, but it feels like a real carlike interior instead of an iPad on wheels.

One of the most noteworthy features of the Polestar 2 is its vegan WeaveTech upholstery, which the company describes as “vegan sophistication.” However, buyers do have the option to get genuine leather if they really want it. Heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel are available.

Passenger Space and Cargo Capacity

Despite the sedan-esque styling, the Polestar 2 feels quite spacious inside. However, it’s still essentially a sedan. The Polestar 2 is a five-seater, but rear passengers will not be comfortable in the cramped rear seats. The hatchback design leaves the Polestar 2 with a lower liftback roofline which limits headroom, giving taller passengers more of a tough time. In addition, if you get the Plus Pack, the optional panoramic glass roof also limits headroom.

Thankfully, the rear row legroom at 33.9 inches is quite decent but still comparatively tighter than the competition. In comparison, the Kia EV6 offers 39 inches of rear legroom. Front passenger seats are expected to be more spacious at 41.3 inches of headroom and 42.2 inches of legroom.

Cargowise, the Polestar 2 offers 14.3 cu-ft of trunk space behind the rear seats. Once again, the area is smaller compared to the likes of Tesla’s 19.8 cu-ft of trunk space and the C40 Recharge’s 15 cubes. Meanwhile, the Polestar 2’s rear seats are foldable at a 6040 split configuration which is a breeze to arrange and load. With the rear seats folded, the cargo area expands to 38.7 cu-ft of space.

In addition, there’s also a hatch in the rear seat good for long objects like skis. The Plus Pack adds a nifty pop-up’ lid in lid’ mechanism that lets you divide the cargo area to prevent smaller items from moving around while driving.

Tech and Infotainment

The Polestar 2 interior shines in terms of cutting-edge tech and infotainment features. For starters, the luxury sedan features an 11.15-inch vertical-oriented touchscreen and a 12.3-inch instrument cluster display. Most notably, the Polestar 2 EV is the first model to use Google’s built-in Android Automotive software. Interestingly enough, Apple CarPlay is now integrated into the Android Automotive software and other Google’s baked-in apps.

Most functions are operated through the 11.5-inch touchscreen, and the main headline is the adoption of built-in Google Maps navigation. Since it’s a native operating system, Google Maps is now integrated with the EV battery state-of-charge, giving drivers the estimated remaining percentage once they reach their destination. This is an excellent feature since it removes the guesswork of wondering if you can make it to your destination with your current battery charge.

The touchscreen also houses other native apps, including Google Assistant, YouTube Music, and other apps you can download from the Google Play Store. Operation is primarily through the touchscreen, and while it’s intuitive, we would have preferred knobs and physical buttons for fan speed and temperature.

Safety and Driver Assistance Features

As of this writing, the 2023 Polestar 2 has yet to be rated by the NHTSA. However, the 2022 model did receive a 5-star rating from the NHTSA and had high scores on several crashworthiness tests.

With that said, the Polestar 2 does come with several driver-assistance and safety features, which should give drivers more peace of mind. Some of the standard Safety Assistance driver aids include:

  • Run-Off Road Mitigation: A system that automatically guides the car back onto the road at higher speeds of 40 to 87 mph.
  • Oncoming Lane Mitigation: The system will steer the vehicle back to the right lane in the event the car heads into the path of an oncoming vehicle.
  • Slippery Road Alert: The system warns if there’s a risk of slippery driving conditions.
  • Post Impact Braking: In the event of a collision, the system automatically applies brakes to prevent further damage.
  • Connected Safety: The driver will be informed of potential road hazards and current road conditions using a cloud-based system.
  • Lane Keep Aid: The system will correct the vehicle if its veers off and crosses the lane marking.

There’s also an optional Pilot lite pack which adds more safety and driver assistance features like blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a 360-degree view camera, adaptive cruise control, auto-dimming wing mirrors, and more.
