Hyundai remote start has been around for some time now and is hitting many of the 2021 models as a standard feature. Older models can add remote start as an aftermarket feature, but it doesn’t come with all of the perks that Hyundai’s factory remote start has.

A remote start is one of those things that is easy to get used to and difficult to get rid of once you make it a habit. Below, we’ll tell you all about Hyundai remote start and the perks that you can expect when it comes with your car.

What is Remote Start?

If you’re not familiar with remote start, it’s a way to start your car from a distance. Remote starts work with radio frequency to connect your vehicle to a key fob that will start or stop it at the click of a button. While that might not sound so great, there are several benefits and, once you use it once, you’ll get used to the convenience.

While there are key fobs with just remote start, many carmakers are adding another high-tech aspect into the mix, connecting an app to allow owners to start their car from their smartphone. This makes the remote start more convenient and adds a few extra perks that make driving more enjoyable.

Hyundai Models with Remote Start

Remote start has been an option on the aftermarket side for some time now. Since 2011, many Hyundai models have had the option, though it wasn’t something that you would find incorporated into each model.

In 2020 and 2021, many models are coming with Hyundai remote start as part of their standard features. A few that come with the feature include:

  • 2021 Hyundai Calligraphy
  • 2021 Hyundai Turbo
  • 2021 Hyundai N Line
  • 2021 Hyundai Sonata

Types of Hyundai Remote Start

If you have a Hyundai, you have a few options for a remote start. Plus, you also have the option to download the app and use that for a longer list of features that you won’t get with just a remote starter. The types you can choose from for your Hyundai include:

Aftermarket

If remote start doesn’t come as a standard feature on your Hyundai, you can add it as an aftermarket product. Doing it this way, you have to be careful about your warranty. Plus, you won’t get extra perks like the app that comes along with a built-in Hyundai remote start.

For 2011 and up Hyundai models with automatic transmission, you can add an aftermarket remote start, which comes as a separate key fob with buttons to turn your car on and off.

There’s a lot you can do for those with Hyundai remote start as part of the standard set of features. First of all, the option to start up your car comes in the form of an app, so you don’t have to keep up with extra keys. Plus, you have the option to connect to Blue Link, Hyundai’s app that allows you to do much more than start your car.

You can start or stop your car, control the temperature, turn on the tunes, and even check your vehicle’s performance from your phone. Options to check your financing and payment options are also available, making it much more than just a remote start.

8 QUESTIONS TO ASK WHEN BUYING A USED CAR

So you’re in the market for a used vehicle?  We’ve gone ahead and prepped some essential questions to ask when buying a used car.

How Hyundai Remote Start Works?

When you have remote start as a standard feature on your new Hyundai, you get Blue Link service for free for 3 years. To use it and start taking advantage of all of the perks, simply download the app, sign up, and start learning the ropes on remote start and temperature control right from your phone.

If you have an aftermarket accessory, you will just have to be in a range that picks up the frequency and push a button to either turn on or turn off your vehicle.

Pros and Cons of Hyundai Remote Start

If you’re still not sure if Hyundai remote start is for you, consider the pros and cons. While it’s a fun feature, it’s not for everyone, and here’s why.

The Pros

  • Convenience – Perhaps the biggest perk is that it’s convenient. Push a button, start your car, and have it ready to go in no time.
  • Protect your car – It’s recommended to leave your car running a bit before you drive it to warm up the engine and the oil.
  • Great for severe weather – If you live in an area with sweltering days or snowy days, you can set your car at the perfect temperature without having to leave your home.

The Cons

  • It can be expensive – Because the remote start and the app work via technology, maintaining it or repairing it can be more expensive than traditional cars.
  • Gas guzzler – in some cases, you run the risk of leaving your car running if your remote start doesn’t come with an auto shut off. If you forget, you could waste gas.
