How much should you pay for a used 2016 Volvo XC60?

in Used car prices

The 2016 Volvo XC60 certainly lives up to the title of a luxury SUV, with premium styling and features, along with all of the space and power you need.

In the city, the XC60 proves to be a sophisticated ride that will impress your friends and coworkers with its technology and premium finishes. In the suburbs, it has plenty of room for a family, sports equipment, groceries, and more. And out in the countryside, it has the power to haul some of your favorite toys around.

Volvo did redesign the XC60 for the 2018 model year, so you might want to check out newer models of this car – but the older design still holds up remarkably well, and you can find incredible deals on a pre-owned 2016 Volvo XC60. Here at CoPilot Search, we want to help you find out how much you should be paying for a pre-owned 2016 Volvo XC60.

How much does the average used 2016 Volvo XC60 cost?

Certified Pre-Owned: $21,393

Savings vs. new: $32,902

A brand new luxury SUV tends to come with a premium price tag. But you can avoid that by buying pre-owned. The average certified pre-owned 2016 Volvo XC60 costs only $21,393. Compared to the average MSRP of a brand new XC60, that’s a 60% savings for a car with many of the same features.

Uncertified: $19,388

Savings vs. new: $34,907

You can save even more money by purchasing an uncertified pre-owned XC60, as long as you’re OK with losing out on the warranty protections offered by Volvo’s CPO program, which we’ll cover more below. Compared to a 2021 XC60, you can expect to save 64% by buying an uncertified pre-owned 2016 XC60.

What’s the average mileage for used 2016 Volvo XC60s?

Average Certified Pre-Owned Mileage: 62,235

Average Uncertified Mileage: 66,897

What factors affect used prices the most?

Certified/Non-certified status

To be eligible for Volvo’s certified pre-owned program, a car has to have less than 80,000 miles on the odometer, pass a 170-point inspection, and come with a full CARFAX history report.

Once it has passed the inspection and a Volvo road test, a certified pre-owned Volvo comes with a 5-year warranty with no mileage limit, covering the engine, transmission, drive axle, steering, suspension, brakes, electrical, and air conditioning.

For those 5 years, you also receive 24/7/365 roadside assistance on your vehicle. For an additional fee, you can extend that warranty for an additional 5 years, which also includes rental car, travel, and towing reimbursement.

If you don’t feel the need for those protections, you can expect to save $2,000 by purchasing a non-certified pre-owned 2016 Volvo XC60 from a dealership or private seller.

Trim levels & features

The 2016 Volvo XC60 was offered with a variety of options, but the biggest distinction is between the T5 trim and the T6 trim.

2016 Volvo XC60 T5

Even at its most basic trim, without any upgrade packages, the 2016 Volvo XC60 lives up to the title of luxury SUV. The Drive-E variant has a 240 hp 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine powering its front wheel drive, while the all-wheel drive version of the T5 gets 250 hp out of its 2.5L inline 5-cylinder engine.

You can’t expect this car to be your professional workhorse, but it should do just fine hauling jet skis around or moving your kids to college. All trims of the 2016 XC60 come with a 7-inch infotainment screen with Volvo’s Sensus software, which can control your phone via Bluetooth, USB, or aux cord. It can also play your CDs, satellite radio, and HD radio through its 8-speaker sound system.

Standard features inside also include power-adjustable front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with tilt and telescoping, a 40/20/40 split fold-down rear bench seat, LED running lights, fog lights, and roof rails.

When it comes to safety, the XC60 features forward collision warning and automatic braking, though the T5 does not come with a rearview camera. The available Premier package adds a panoramic roof, a navigation system, rear privacy glass, and replaces Volvo’s T-tec fabric upholstery with leather.

The Platinum package is where you get the rearview camera, in addition to adaptive cruise control, driver lane departure warnings, and an upgraded forward collision prevention system.

The Platinum package also gives the XC60 a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, keyless entry and ignition, and a power liftgate. Without the premium features, you can expect to pay around $15,000 for a pre-owned 2016 Volvo XC60 T5.

THE BEST USED SUVS UNDER $10,000

We looked into price, reliability, features, and more to create this list of the best used SUVs under $10k on the market today. Take a look - some of the best used SUVs have gone mostly overlooked or forgotten.

2016 Volvo XC60 T6

If the T5 sounds nice, but you need a car with a little more power packed under the hood, then look no further than the 2016 Volvo XC60 T6. The T6 trim adds a supercharger to the already turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder engine, and provides 302 hp for the front-wheel or all-wheel drivetrain.

And if that’s still not enough power for you, Volvo offers the T6 R-Design XC60, a sportier trim with a 3.0L inline 6-cylinder engine that sends 325 hp to all four of its 20-inch wheels. All T6 XC60s come with the features of the T5 with the Premier package, and the same Platinum package is offered as an upgrade. You can expect the T6 variants of the 2016 Volvo XC60 to cost about $5,000 more than their T5 counterparts.

Mileage

From our CoPilot data, we can see that the average certified pre-owned 2016 Volvo XC60 depreciates by about $1 every 2 miles it has been driven. At this rate, for every 10,000 miles you should expect to pay about $5,287 below MSRP on a CPO 2016 Volvo XC60 compared to a new 2021 XC60.  If you’re buying a non-certified pre-owned, you should expect to save $5,218 for every 10,000 miles.
