Although a powerful SUV, the Ford Ranger does face some stiff competition. The Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, Nissan Frontier, and the Honda Ridgeline all have hot models to offer in this year. What does Ford offer to sway your decision when looking for a used mid-sized truck? Well, let’s take a look and see.

2019 Ford Ranger Trim Models

The trim models are as followed: XL, XLT, and Lariat. You only have two cabs to choose from: the SuperCab and the SuperCrew. When it comes to the XL trim, the Ranger is really just a base vehicle (bare-bones). It is good for fleet use and anyone who is not looking for a lot of creature comforts.

GET THE SAME INSIDER INFO THAT DEALERSHIPS USE

The CoPilot app is the smartest way to buy a car. Built using the same technology as dealerships use, we’ll show you everything you want to know about each listing - like how long it’s been on the lot, or if there are similar vehicles at a better price nearby.

Powertrain/Gas Mileage/Towing

The 2019 Ford Ranger comes with a 2.3-liter turbocharged I-4 as your only engine option. You might think to yourself: a four-cylinder in a truck? But this 2.3-liter produces 270 horsepower with 310 lb.-ft. of torque and is connected to a standard 10-speed automatic transmission.

The extra gear ratios help with both gas mileage and towing. Gas mileage comes in at an EPA-Estimated 21 city / 26 hwy. Towing comes in at 7,500 pounds. All of those numbers make for a good well-rounded vehicle with a lot of capabilities.

2019 Ford Ranger Features and Technology

The interior technologies seem to all be there, along with all the amenities - the only thing is they seem to be almost a generation behind in looks and design. Everything fits well…it just looks and feels a little outdated. And even though it’s only a mid-sized truck, the backseat in the crew cab is a little cramped.

When you move up in trim models to the XLT, you start to get some more travel-ready features like Reverse Sensing System, halogen fog lamps, 4.2-inch gauge display (opposed to 2.3-inch in the XL), remote keyless entry, manual-folding and remote powered side mirrors, rear defroster, a power locking tailgate, cruise control, and more.

You also get some better-looking exterior features like a black mesh grille, 17-inch aluminum wheels, and body-colored front and rear bumpers.

Moving up to the Lariat model, you start to feel like you are in the best year for the Ford Ranger. Leather trim seats are added to the styling of the Lariat model, along with 18-inch wheels, chrome grille, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and LED headlights, fog lights, and taillights.

You also receive the Ford Sync 3 technology with an 8-inch multimedia touchscreen, overhead storage console, auto-dimming rearview mirror, ambient lighting, and dual-zone automatic climate control.

THE BEST USED SUVS UNDER $10,000

We looked into price, reliability, features, and more to create this list of the best used SUVs under $10k on the market today. Take a look - some of the best used SUVs have gone mostly overlooked or forgotten.

2019 Ford Ranger Safety Features

It’s nice when technology keeps you safe, and Ford helps that happen with their Co-Pilot360 safety features. This suite of standard features comes with BLIS (Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert).

BLIS uses a set of sensors to detect traffic that might be in your blind spot when you’re trying to change lanes, and Cross-Traffic Alert will detect objects, vehicles, and people behind you when you’re backing up slowly.

You also get the Lane-Keeping System, Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Evasive Steering Assist, Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, rearview camera, and more. A lot of these available features are designed to help you on long drives where your mind might start to wonder.

The safety list sounds pretty average when compared with most vehicles, but most of the standard features that come with the Co-Pilot360 do not come standard on all of the truck competitors - especially lacking is the US brands - they have to be ordered.

2019 Ford Ranger Reliability

Since the 2019 Ford Ranger is fairly new, reliability is kind of a toss-up. But by reading customer reviews and expert reviews, everyone seems pretty satisfied. This best year for the Ford Ranger is a comeback year, but if it’s anything like the old Ford Rangers that have been taken care of properly, they should last you for quite a long time. These Ford Rangers seem to be bigger and tougher so you should be able to rely on them for a lot.

2019 Ford Ranger Warranties

A lot of these Ford Rangers should still be under warranty, so be sure to ask the dealer about any existing warranties and or warranties that can be added on.

Should You Buy a Used 2019 Ford Ranger?

We say absolutely. 2019 is the best year for the Ford Ranger because you get a lot for what you pay for. It has more than enough power to not only get you around town but to tow and haul plenty of weight, and it can even hold its own in off-roading situations.

If you’re looking for a great 4-to-5-seater truck, but you think that the F-150 might be too big for your needs, this is a great way to go. With good gas mileage, great looks, and the ability to almost outperform all of its competition in a lot of the categories, this Ford Ranger has it all.
