Putting six people in a vehicle may not appear to be a challenge if you’ve got a three-row SUV. But what if your transportation needs must include substantial cargo room in the back? In this case, there’s only one option: trucks that seat 6. Read on as we look at what pickups are available with this capability.

In most of today’s vehicles, the trend is to use a dual bucket seat configuration in the first row. However, most full-sized pickup trucks (depending on the trim) offer a three-person bench seat in front. This capacity, along with a three-person bench seat in the back, means you’re set for six to ride in safety and comfort.

Also, be aware that for a pickup to accommodate six people in two rows, it will need to have an extended cab (there are two versions). A double cab has four doors, including two smaller rear access doors, and maybe labeled as SuperCab, King Cab, or Quad Cab, depending on the automaker. Trucks with crew cabs have four standard-sized doors and can be marketed as SuperCrew (Ford) or CrewMax (Toyota).

Trucks That Seat 6: Take Your Pick

It’s important to note that the following brand-specific information is based on the 2021 or 2022 model years. Earlier trucks may have different seat configurations.

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 / GMC Sierra 1500

Chevy’s Silverado 1500 pickup and its corporate twin, the Sierra 1500, are some of the best-selling vehicles in the U.S. (America loves its pickups). For trucks that seat 6, you’ll need to skip the top trims and head towards the more work-oriented models. Plus, you’ll want either a double or crew cab body style (the regular cab is a one-row-only truck). For the Chevy, six-seat trims include the WT, Custom, and LT versions. The GMC has the Pro, SLE, Elevation, and SLT trims.

Chevrolet Silverado HD / GMC Sierra HD

The HD (or Heavy Duty) versions of the Chevy and GMC pickups are another pair of trucks that seat 6. The Silverado HD and Sierra HD offer significantly more hauling and towing capacity than regular Silverados and Sierras. So the need to transport multiple passengers is easily supported by these beefier trucks. Similarly, two rows of bench seats mean you’ll have to stick with lower trims (WT, Custom, and LT for the Chevrolet and Pro, SLE, and SLT for the GMC). Keep in mind that both brands come in 2500 HD and 3500 HD models (which offer different capacity levels).

Ford F-150

For more than four decades, the Ford F-150 has been America’s best-selling vehicle of any type. And its ability to carry up to six makes this pickup more versatile than most two-row SUVs on the road. Unfortunately, the high-performance Tremor and Raptor models are strictly a five-passenger setup (the same goes for the luxury-focused King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited). So, to get six-person capacity in an F-150, make sure it’s an XL, XLT, or Lariat in either SuperCab or SuperCrew form.

Ford F-Series Super Duty

Just like General Motors offers a Heavy Duty version of its mainstream pickups, so does Ford. Think of the F-Series Super Duty like a standard F-150 on steroids; everything in the lineup is bigger, bulkier, and more capable. When properly equipped, a Super Duty can tow a gooseneck trailer weighing up to a whopping 32,000 pounds. However, unlike the less-mighty F-150, all Super Duty trims (including the upscale King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited) are available with a six-passenger capacity. The Super Duty comes in F-250, F-350, and F-450 models.

Nissan Titan

The Nissan name doesn’t come up often for a full-sized truck, but its Titan pickup (which was redesigned in 2016) offers a credible alternative to more popular brands. Like other trucks, a six-seat capability is only available with the lower trims (the S or SV) in either the King Cab or Crew Cab body style. The off-road PRO-4X and top-of-the-line Platinum feature front-row bucket seats. Nissan keeps it simple under the hood as all the Titans come with the same 5.6-liter V-8 making 400 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque.

Nissan Titan XD

The Titan XD is a chip off the old block (meaning the standard Titan), but it’s engineered for more capability: the Titan XD is a three-quarter-ton truck, while the Titan is rated as a half-ton pickup. The XD also gets standard four-wheel drive. Otherwise, everything else is the same, including getting the truck in King Cab or Crew Cab form and S or SV trim for a six-person ride.

RAM 1500 Classic

RAM didn’t want to ignore more cost-conscious truck buyers when the all-new 1500 pickup was introduced for the 2019 model year. So, the previous (fourth-generation) 1500 was carried over under the 1500 Classic label. All three trims–Tradesman, Express, and Warlock–come standard with two rows of bench seats (in either the Quad Cab or Crew Cab body style). So, the RAM 1500 Classic gets added to the list of trucks that seat 6.

WHAT TO DO IF A DEALER REFUSES TO CANCEL EXTENDED WARRANTY

Car buying can occasionally be frustrating, especially if you’re purchasing your vehicle through a dealership. We’re here to tell you how to navigate a situation in which a dealer refuses to cancel your extended warranty.

RAM 1500

Seating six in a fifth-generation RAM 1500 means choosing either the Tradesman, Big Horn, or Laramie trim in Quad Cab or Crew Cab setup. The upper-end versions (Rebel, Limited Longhorn, and Limited) are restricted to bucket seats in the front. If the base 3.6-liter V-6 with 305 horsepower isn’t enough, consider the available 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 (395 horsepower) or the tow-friendly turbocharged 3.0-liter Diesel V-6.

RAM 25003500

RAM goes with the flow (and other automakers) by selling a more robust version of its 1500 pickup. The RAM 2500 and RAM 3500 provide heavy-duty capability beyond what the 1500 offers. While a Crew Cab is available across the lineup, RAM also offers a Mega Cab body style on all trims (except the base Tradesman). It’s a stretched version of Crew Cab that provides even more interior space. Like the RAM 1500, six-person seating only comes with the Tradesman, Big Horn, or Laramie. The standard powerplant for all RAM 2500s and 3500s is a 6.4-liter V-8 offering 410 horsepower.

Toyota Tundra

While Toyota introduced an all-new (third-generation) Tundra for the 2022 model year, there is no front bench seat configuration. That’s means if you want a Toyota badge on your truck and room for six inside, you’ll need to stick to the second-generation Tundra. In addition, you’ll have to choose the lower SR or SR5 trim (as well as Double Cab or CrewMax body). Like with other truck brands, the upscale versions only offer bucket seats in the first row.

Honorable Mentions

Here are some additional models that deserve an honorable mention:

  1. Toyota Tacoma Double Cab: The Tacoma, known for its durability and off-road capability, offers seating for six in its Double Cab configuration with a bench front seat, depending on the trim and year.
  2. Honda Ridgeline: The Ridgeline provides a comfortable and car-like ride with its unibody construction. Select trims and model years feature a front bench seat, accommodating six passengers.
  3. Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon Crew Cab: These midsize trucks offer a spacious interior in their Crew Cab versions. Certain trims allow for a front bench seat, making room for six occupants.
  4. Nissan Frontier Crew Cab: The Frontier is another midsize option that, in its Crew Cab configuration, can sometimes be equipped with a bench front seat, depending on the specific model and trim.

These trucks, while not as commonly configured to seat six as their full-size counterparts, can offer the necessary seating capacity with the right interior configuration, providing more options for buyers in need of extra passenger space.
