Since 2013, the Trax has served as Chevy’s entry-level crossover, concentrating more on price than design. But after skipping the 2023 model year, the Trax has been resurrected as a stylish and affordable utility anchoring the automaker’s lineup. Thanks to this reinvention, it’s a car attracting much attention. As a result, it’s logical to want to know about the 2024 Chevy Trax release date. The quick answer? Now. Trax models are already on dealer lots.

What makes the Trax so significant is its low starting price (just over $21,000). According to Cox Automotive, the average price of a new car is over $48,000, which reflects automakers shifting towards more profitable cars and dealers offering fewer discounts. Add in higher interest rates, and today’s new car buyers are getting squeezed. Some are even getting priced out of the market.

Chevy’s savvy move of offering something well-priced and well-equipped could be a home run. Early results are pointing to a success for the automaker. By the end of September 2023, Chevy sold more Trax models (over 65,000) than all the units sold in 2021 and 2022. Interestingly, more Trax were sold in the third quarter of 2023 than Cadillacs.

2024 Chevy Trax Release Date: Exterior Design

The new 2024 Trax adopts an athletic stance thanks to its longer, lower, and wider dimensions than the outgoing model. Designers took inspiration from the midsize Chevrolet Blazer, incorporating sleek lines, strong shoulders, and an overall muscular presence. These are unusual characteristics of a wallet-friendly vehicle.

At the front, the grille displays Chevrolet’s signature bowtie emblem, which flows outward into slim headlights. All trims feature standard LED headlamps for improved visibility. Distinct front-end styling helps differentiate the various trims, including unique grilles and special accents on sportier RS variants.

The side profile stands out due to Trax’s 4-inch lower roofline and restyled character lines. The rear end caps off the modern look with Chevy-signature taillights and an integrated spoiler. Wheels range from 17-inch steel on base LS models to 19-inch aluminum on the high-end 2RS trim.

2024 Chevy Trax Release Date: Interior Treatments

Chevrolet emphasizes the Trax’s “tech-forward” interior loaded with amenities not typically found in affordable subcompact crossovers. The redesigned cabin prioritizes outward visibility with an airy, spacious layout. It’s supplemented by an array of infotainment options and the latest technology features.

An 8-inch touchscreen comes standard, while higher trims upgrade to an 11-inch display with crisp HD resolution. Wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is a new addition, as is available Qi-compatible wireless phone charging. To highlight interior roominess, Chevrolet incorporated a long dashboard with sweeping lines. In addition, each trim gets unique interior treatments, like two-tone black/gray seats in the LT, yellow accents for the ACTIV, and red accents for the sport RS.

2024 Chevy Trax Release Date: Powertrain Specifications

The redesigned 2024 Chevrolet Trax drops in an all-new turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine rated at 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. It’s connected to a six-speed automatic transmission.

This powerplant won’t win any stoplight races but meets most suburban and urban driving needs. Highway acceleration, however, can best be described as pokey. However, performance isn’t a priority for vehicles in this price range. EPA-estimated fuel economy for the 2024 Trax is 28 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.

Unlike the previous Trax, the 2024 edition isn’t available with all-wheel drive. To keep costs down, Chevrolet only offers front-wheel drive. You’ll need to step up to the Trailblazer or another SUV higher in Chevy’s utility lineup if you want all four corners to spin.

CHEVY TRAX PROS & CONS

Are you considering an investment in one for yourself? If so, you’re in the right place. Let’s dive into some of the clearest Chevy Trax pros and cons to help you make the best choice.

2024 Chevy Trax Release Date: Dimensions and Capacities

The 2024 Trax checks in at 178.6 inches long with a 106.3-inch wheelbase, making it almost six inches longer overall than its predecessor. Height drops by four inches for a sleeker stance, casting off the stubby looks of the previous Trax. Chevrolet increased the track width as well for more composed handling dynamics.

These enlarged dimensions translate into a roomier, more passenger-friendly interior. Rear legroom grows by three inches for more comfort than the old model. Total passenger volume rises to 99.8 cubic feet. Cargo capacity increases, too, with 25.6 cubic feet behind the rear seat or a maximum of 54.1 cubic feet with the 6040 split seat folded. That’s an almost 12 percent cargo volume increase.

2024 Chevy Trax Release Date: Technology and Connectivity

Chevrolet positioned the 2024 Trax as a leader in in-car technology at the price point. Even the base LS trim is nicely equipped, but higher trims add luxury features typically seen in more expensive vehicles.

For infotainment duties, owners get wireless smartphone connectivity, Bluetooth, and access to a Wi-Fi hotspot and OnStar. Convenience upgrades include remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a six-way power driver’s seat.

On safety, the second-generation Trax comes standard with advanced driver assistance systems under the Chevy Safety Assist umbrella, including forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, auto high beams, and a following distance indicator. A rearview camera also comes standard, with available extras like blind zone monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
