The new Ford F-150 “Tremor” package

The 2021 Ford F-150 “Tremor” is a comprehensive trim level that is available on the 2021 F-150. While the Tremor name has been around the Ford truck stable for a few months now, it stopped short of being a full-fledged trim level and gave vehicles like the Ford Ranger additional off-road capability and rugged good looks. For 2021, things are drastically changing.

Ford’s brand new, 2021 F-150 is getting an incredible amount of positive press from the automotive community and it is well deserved. The team at Ford managed to mix ultimate capability, power, and efficiency with the types of features that full-size truck buyers never knew they wanted. How about seats that fully recline into a bed? How about turning your truck into a mobile power station that can power an electric jackhammer? The 2021 F-150 can do all this and more.

Ford offers the Tremor package exclusively on the SuperCrew body style, outfitted with a 5.5-foot bed. It’s meant to take the off-road capability of the standard F-150 4x4 up a few notches while retaining the F-150’s daily driveable character and stellar tow ratings. It slots in between the FX4 Off-Road trim and the dune jumping, off-road legend that is the Ford Raptor.

Ford is also making an updated Tremor package available on the F-250, F-350, and compact Ranger truck as well.

WHY ARE TRUCKS SO EXPENSIVE?

Especially if you’re reading this article, the thought has definitely crossed your mind - why do trucks always cost so damn much? With the average new sale price of a truck passing $50k, we break down why trucks are so expensive.

Off-Road Credentials and Eco-Boost Power

Ford wanted to produce a package that was highly capable off-road, while still retaining on-road prowess and day to day useability. Every Tremor comes standard with a Raptor style bash-plate, Tremor specific monotube shocks, bespoke control arms/suspension knuckles, General Grabber 33 inch tires, and a standard locking rear differential. Later in 2021, a Torsen limited-slip differential will be optional. Tremor buyers will also receive the torque-on-demand transfer case from the Raptor that blends the benefits of 4 four-wheel drive and all drive seamlessly.

Powering the Ford Tremor is the corporate 3.5L Ecoboost V-6 that churns out a hearty 400 horsepower and is mated to a quick-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission. A unique rear bumper with integrated recovery hooks has dual cutouts for a Tremor exclusive, free-flowing exhaust system. Much like the standard F-150, expect acceleration performance that is more on par with a sports car than a full-size truck. Just like a So-Cal Tremor, you’ll feel this thing before you see it.

One major differentiation between the Raptor and the Tremor is the ability of the Tremor to tow and hold payload. Ford says the Tremor can tow a staggering 10,900 lbs and can carry over 1800 pounds in its bed. This is substantially better than the Raptors 1000 pound payload capacity and 6000 pound towing capacity.

FORD F-150 5.0L ENGINE PROBLEMS

While the 5.0L Ford engine is famously reliable, it’s not without its issues. Here are the most common problems with Ford F-150 5.0L engines and how much it costs to fix them.

Packages and Technology

The Tremor will be offered with a standard suspension/engine combo and allow buyers to choose from one of three equipment option packages. Each equipment level will provide additional technology, like dual 12.3 screens and high-end Bang & Olufsen stereos, much like those available on the standard F-150. There are tons of Tremor touches all over the inside and outside of this off-road beast including “Active Orange” accents, Tremor embossed seats, auxiliary lighting switches, a unique hood, and bumpers.

Beyond the interior technology, Ford really dialed up the off-road assisting software available on the Tremor. Ford’s Trail Control is available and when paired with the standard hill-descent control allows the Tremor to creep along trails with little driver input. One - Pedal Drive functions much like an electric car, simply push the pedal to go forward and release to stop. Trail Turn Assist gently applies brakes to the inside rear wheel at the same time as the accelerator is pressed, which allows the Tremor to drastically cut its turning radius. A bevy of exterior cameras helps drivers see any obstacle off-road from the driver’s seat with ease and functions as a sort of digital spotter.
