A Brief History of Lamborghinis
Automobili Lamborghini SpA is an Italian automotive manufacturer with headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy. This company is a subsidiary of Audi, making it owned by the Volkswagen Group. Lamborghini was founded by Lamborghini Ferruccio in 1963 to compete with similar marques such as Ferrari. The company gained a stellar reputation in 1966 with its production of the Lamborghini Miura. This model inspired rival companies to use rear mid-engine rear-wheel drive power trains on their vehicles. The company bounced from owner to owner in the 1970s to the 1990s until it was sold to Volkswagen Group in 1998, where it remains today.
Popular Vehicles and Scope of Models
Lamborghini is a well-respected manufacturer of luxury, high-performance sports cars, SUVs, and supercars. Lamborghini has given us some genuinely iconic vehicles since the turn of the century, including the Gallardo, Aventador, and Urus.
Anecdote/Recent News Story
Since 2017, Lamborghini has released several concept cars. These hint that the company is joining most other luxury automakers in aiming for hybrid and battery-powered electric models.
These concept cars include the Lamborghini Terzo Millennio - an electric hypercar introduced at a Tech Conference in Massachusetts in 2017 - and the Lamborghini Asterion, introduced at an auto show in Paris in 2014.
While it’s good that Lamborghini is trending in the right direction on the hybrid/EV market, they are late to the party. Almost all reputable luxury carmakers already have these types of vehicles in production and on the road.
Synopsis of Sports Car Models
The Lamborghini sports car models include the Lamborghini Aventador, Huracan, and Centenario.
The Lamborghini Centenario is technically categorized as a limited edition supercar and caters to a small and a select number of clients. The Centenario has the most advanced features available to the Lamborghini company and is made mostly of carbon fiber.
The Aventador model has a ridiculous amount of power for its class. Even the most basic trim level of the Aventador features a V12 engine capable of producing an astounding 740 horsepower. This model also features a four-wheel drive powertrain and all-wheel steering. This also makes driving the vehicle more enjoyable without having to sacrifice safety. And, of course, the Aventador features the unmistakable exterior that one expects with the Lamborghini marque.
Synopsis of SUV Models
The only Lamborghini SUV model currently available is the Lamborghini Urus. The Urus’ biggest rival in its class is the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, also known as the G-Wagon.
The Lamborghini Urus is considered the world’s first-ever super SUV and features best-in-class driving dynamics. The performance of the Urus is unrivaled in its class as it features a maximum power output of 478kw/650 horsepower, which is the best weight-to-power output on the SUV market. This SUV features everyday usability and outstanding performance with a luxury interior, making it arguably the best SUV in the world.
Despite the financial issues that have plagued the company in the past, Lamborghini continues to produce excellent quality, high-performance luxury vehicles. The company should keep the success its seen so far this century. But it would be nice to see them get some EV/Hybrid cars on the road soon.
